All is Vanity

Dear Diary,

I’ve been reading Ecclesiastes.  I love it.  I think that a lot of people don’t read Ecclesiastes because it is not one of the well known books in the Bible, but it is so good, wise and true.  Solomon says, “All is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2); meaning, all is vanity under the sun.  This means that whatever man does it has been done before.  Nothing is new, and no matter what he does it will be forgotten and come to nothing.  How true!  We think we are so great, when in reality we are less than a worm.  We think our accomplishments will change the world, when they will either be forgotten or given to another.  Solomon did everything that man could do.  He denied himself nothing; but, in the end, they did not bring lasting peace.  It all became as nothing.  The only true happiness and lasting peace comes from knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  All else is vanity.

Thought for Today:  My mother always said, “Only one life to live, will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ, will last.”
