God has given us a formula for His peace. “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:4-5). The key words in the first part of these verses are delight and commit. We are to delight in the Lord; love Him and seek to follow Him with our whole heart, soul and mind. Also, we are to commit our ways unto Him; in fact, we are to commit our entire life unto Him. Another key word is trust. We are to trust Him, and strive to trust Him more. We are to trust that He only has good for us. The last part of Psalm 37 says, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him…” (Psalm 37:7). The Key word here is rest. We are to wait for God’s perfect timing, wait for God’s perfect way, and while waiting we are to rest. Rest in the Lord; rest in His all knowing sovereignty; rest in His promises; and rest in His goodness, knowing that He only wants what is best for us. So, here we have it: delight, commit, trust and rest. These four things are the formula for God’s peace.
Thought for Today: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3).
