Amy Carmichael was talking about how when we pray we need to reach out and touch the hem of His garment. She said, “Something happens when we touch. What happens? Who can tell? Only we know that something has passed from Him to us.” All who touch His hem are healed and made whole, just as the woman who touched His hem was made whole. Whether Jesus touches us or we touch Him, virtue is passed. “And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” (Luke 8:46). Every time we pray in earnest, believing, power is passed. As Jesus told the woman, “…thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” (Luke 8:48). Jesus gives us the power, grace if you will, to carry on when all is lost, to face what we fear the most, courage to do that difficult thing, strength to get up each morning with a new sweetness, a new meaning for living and a new purpose. When we touch the hem of His garment we know it. It is different than just reading and praying, for we are forever changed.
Thought for Today: May we each at least reach out in faith, believing and touch the hem of His garment where virtue, power and healing is passed.
