“But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken” (Jonah 1:4). All the sailors were afraid, “…but Jonah was gone down into the sides to the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep” (Jonah 1:5b). How could Jonah sleep peacefully through a storm, and yet, not know that God would find him? I marvel at how ignorant Jonah was to think that he could hide from God by going into the bottom of a ship. Perhaps he thought God would just look the other way and chose someone else to go to Nineveh. Not likely! When God calls we are to obey. Because of Jonah’s disobedience he had to endure three days and three nights in the belly of a fish. I’m sure that during those three days and nights Jonah learned the lesson of the sovereignty of God. No one can avoid responsibility when God calls them to do something. No one can hide from God. No one can run from God. God knows all and sees all and is always in control.
Thought for Today: Disobedience had consequences. When God calls – Obey.
