Today is my birthday. I should be happy; however, because of uncertainties and trials in my life I’m depressed and in heaviness of heart. My son, Isaac, called to wish me a Happy Birthday. I told him of my trials and depression and he read to me I Peter 1:6-7. “Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” (I Peter 1:6-7). Then he told me that my happiness and my pleasure should not be in the things that I have or do not have. My pleasure should not even be in that today is my birthday. He said that my pleasure should be in my salvation, and that I’m not going to hell, today. Wow! That was good counsel. He brought me back to what’s important. Trials and Temptations shall always come and go, but Christ with His gift of grace and salvation is forever.
Thought for Today: The trials of your faith are to deepen your walk with Christ. “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” (I Peter 1:9).
