Proverbs 14:1 says, “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” This verse is talking about women who tear down their house with their own hands. So many women today are doing just that. They have become pluckers. They pluck at their husband; they pluck at their children; until their house falls down. Unfortunately, human nature makes us all pluckers, but by the grace of God we can become builders. That is why it is so important to build up your husband, encourage your children and help them build self-confidence. The mother sets the mood for the entire household. Amy Carmichael puts it this way: “If I am inconsiderate about the comfort of others, or their feelings, or even of their little weaknesses; if I am careless about their little hurts and miss opportunities to smooth their way; if I make the sweet running of household wheels more difficult to accomplish, then I know nothing of Calvary love” (IF, p.54).
Thought for Today: Lord, help us be wise women who build our house and not pluck it down. Give us more love, understanding and compassion.
